2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek Price, Specifications and First Drive

Subaru learned long ago that a little extra ground clearance and rugged looks a little trim can do wonders for the popularity of small, four-wheel-drive car. Not surprisingly, then, that the company sends the latest Impreza in for what amounts to treat Outback.

Subaru used to call such a model Impreza Outback. Now the idea is reincarnated as a 2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek but are designed to woo different audiences. Subaru think it was built for "urban adventure" and that it is more likely to detect curb-hopping in Manhattan by powersliding around on dirt roads. This self-consciously trendy, which is probably why Subaru chose to launch it with a strong orange color and add "Crosstrek" moniker for the U.S.

2013 Subaru XV Crosstrek share a basic configuration with the new Impreza, with struts in front and double wishbones at the rear. All-wheel drive is common but different systems according to your choice of transmission. Lineartronic models feature electronically controlled multiplate clutch with a 60/40 torque split front to back as default. Manual models have a differential bevel-gear center differential with viscous coupling-type limited-slip. Standard torque distribution here is 50/50. Coupled with a minimum ground clearance of 8.7 inches, the two systems should prove useful when the snow falls
